Jazz, as a popular dance type, combines techniques of classical ballet and modern dance with the current forms of popular dance.

Jazz also has its own movement vocabulary ranging from the isolation of certain body parts to the movement of the entire body with the accents of musical rhythms.

Jazz lessons can be patterned in several different dance, either singularly or a combination of them. Emphasis is on the importance of energy, rhythmical accuracy, and style.

Lessons will incorporate fundamental techniques with interesting and lively choreography  and focuses on syncopated rhythms in the music.

The health and physical fitness benefits of jazz dance include

  • increased strength

  • flexibility

  • coordination

  • and endurance

The athletic, full-bodied nature of jazz dance develops arm strength from floor work, leg strength from jumps, and core strength from coordinating the limbs.

Jazz dance lessons consist of stretching sequences that lengthen the larger muscles of the legs and lower back. Increased flexibility and range of motion in the hips, shoulders, and spine commonly develop from jazz dance training.
